Ward 41 councillor dies after illness

Shock and grief have swept through the Vaal following the death of ELM’S MMC for Public Works, Tumi Mochawe.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Former Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM) MMC for Public Works, Itumeleng ‘Tumi’ Mochawe, has died following illness.

Ster has learnt that Mochawe passed away in hospital on June 26.

Mochawe’s passing has since plunged the entire Vaal community and the political sphere into disbelief and grief.

Known affectionately by many as the “People’s Councillor”, Mochawe was widely regarded for his commitment to public service and community development during his tenure in local government.

Tributes have since poured in from various organisations and individuals following news of his passing.

The Vanguard Political Series extended its condolences to the Mochawe family, friends, and political comrades, describing his death as a significant loss to the region’s political landscape.

KHD Media also paid tribute to the late councillor, remembering him as the first guest to appear on the platform on January 6.

“His passing is a great loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone mourning him during this difficult time,” the organisation said in a statement.

The media house added that Mochawe’s contribution would always remain part of its journey and wished strength and comfort to his family and loved ones.

At the time of publication, neither the ANC in the Sedibeng region nor ELM had issued an official statement regarding Mochawe’s passing.

Ster has forwarded the inquiries to both institutions and is awaiting a response.
