Tensions flared on Friday morning after an anti-illegal immigration demonstration turned violent, resulting in street clashes between protesters and foreign nationals. The area was severely disrupted as demonstrators set tyres alight, blocked roads, and threw stones.

Since the protests began, organisers have demanded stricter checks on local businesses to ensure that all workers hold valid legal documentation. Following the unrest, March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese claimed that the SAPS failed to protect local citizens.

Speaking to Ster North, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that officers restored order in the central business district after responding to the chaos.

Police reported that roads were barricaded with burning tyres and one shop was looted during the morning disturbances. Authorities have opened a case of public violence to investigate the incident.

Nevhuhulwi confirmed no arrests have been made no arrests have been made so far. Police added that the situation has since normalised after the crowd dispersed, with no further reports of property damage.
