Phelophepa comes to Vereeniging

The Phelophepa Healthcare Train returns to Vereeniging from August 24 to September 4, offering free healthcare, dental, eye and chronic care services.

VEREENIGING – Sedibeng District residents will be happy to know that the Transnet Phelophepa Healthcare Train, which provides free health services, will once again be stationed at the Vereeniging Railway Station for two weeks.

In the first week, the health facility will operate from August 24-28, while in the second week operations will resume from August 31 to September 4. The train provides a wide range of free health services, including general healthcare, dental care, psychological support, optometry, and chronic care. The facility operates from 07:30 to 16:00 on weekdays.

Speaking to Ster North during the 2025 visit, train manager Bheki Mendlula warned residents about the dangers of sleeping at the station to access health services. Mendlula raised concerns about people sleeping at the station overnight to secure a spot in line.

“We don’t encourage this, especially since most of the people are elderly. Winter nights can be harsh and unsafe. But many still do it because they’ve come from far away and don’t want to miss the opportunity,” he said.

Mendlula also noted that one of the most in-demand services was the eye clinic, which offers immediate prescription glasses, a major draw for residents who might otherwise face delays at local clinics.

The Phelophepa train continues to be a beacon of hope for people in and around the region, providing quick and essential health services.
