Constable Nompumelelo Zazini from the Meyerton SAPS has captured the hearts of the community, serving them fearlessly and fighting crime without fear or favour.

Zazini is a beloved and well-known figure in her community, respected by people of all ages. From the elderly to the youth, and even young children, everyone knows her and warmly stops to greet her as she walks through the streets of Meyerton.

Zazini says her love for people grew when she began volunteering at the Trauma Centre at Meyerton SAPS.

“From there I became a Centre Manager at McKay CYCC while serving as a Police Reservist. I was later appointed as a permanent member of the South African Police Service.”

Currently, Zazini serves as the Social Crime Prevention Coordinator. Her daily duties include coordinating School Safety Programmes, working with schools, learners, parents and stakeholders to create safe learning environments.

Zazini is also responsible for building partnerships with the CPF and communities, GBVF Awareness, where she educates and supports victims, and drug and substance abuse awareness, where she carries out campaigns in schools and communities.

“During crime prevention campaigns, I conduct door-to-door visits, imbizos, roadshows and events, and stakeholder collaboration, working with government departments, NGOs, Faith-Based Organisations and traditional leaders, and victim empowerment, linking victims to support services.”

Zazini says what drives her is the love and dedication to the service.

“Being a police officer is not about income; it’s about making a difference in my community, touching people’s lives, and serving with dignity and pride. I sleep peacefully at night knowing I have made a difference in someone’s life. I want people to know they can rely on us and that they will get the assistance they need.”

Zazini has maintained an open-door policy for years, engaging with the community on important issues and helping people navigate challenges so they do not feel frustrated, overlooked, or alone. Zazini states that she will always go above and beyond the call of duty to serve her community.
