Murder investigation underway in Bophelong

Police are investigating a murder case following the gruesome discovery of a man brutally murdered in an open veld.

BOPHELONG – Residents woke up to a shocking discovery on the morning of September 6 when the body of a man was found dumped in an open veld in Ext 15.

The gruesome discovery was made at about 08:00, hours after residents allegedly heard a woman screaming in the dead of night, followed by what sounded like gunshots.

According to information at Ster’s disposal, the disturbance happened at around midnight.

Then, at 05:00, residents reportedly heard dogs barking and behaving restlessly in the area.

A few hours later, the lifeless body of a man was discovered in the open veld.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and declared the man dead before his body was taken to the Sebokeng mortuary.

Vanderbijlpark Police spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu confirmed that a murder investigation is underway.

“An African male was found lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds on his head and body,” said Sigcu.

Police have not yet established what led to the killing and no arrests have been made.

However, Sigcu said their detectives are continuing with their investigation to determine the motive for the brutal attack.
