A Substance Abuse and Mental Health Awareness Programme carried out at Tshepong Primary School brought together various stakeholders in the fight against substance abuse and the promotion of mental health awareness.

Tshepong Primary School SBST, collaborated with the Department of Social Development (DSD) School Psycho-Social Support Services, Kgotala Gcina, and Nqobile NGOs.

Busisiwe Hlatshwayo from DSD says the event aimed to educate and empower learners, parents, and the community about the dangers and consequences associated with substance abuse and mental health challenges.

“The focus was on the dangers of abusing substances in the presence of children, preparing learners as they transition to high school, and providing information about drug and substance abuse and mental health.

“The programme provided valuable information and support to all attendees. The stakeholder collaboration contributed significantly to the event’s success. Tshepong Primary School staff worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was successfully organised.”

Hlatshwayo thanked the School Principal Penelope Mosoetsa, guests and stakeholders who honoured our invitation and contributed their time, expertise, and support.

Other stakeholders present at the event included the Department of Health, the SAPS, the Department of Basic Education’s Sedibeng East District, the DSD Drug and Substance Abuse Programme, and Italtile Rally to Read.

Tshepong Primary School extended its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed towards the success of the event.
