VANDERBIJLPARK. – Five female students from a local university have been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal stabbing incident involving an African male at Moseley Street on September 23.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu reports that police were summoned to the scene and, on arrival, found a man lying on the ground with a stab wound on his neck. Sigcu says the man was declared dead by paramedics.

Upon further investigation, police were told that the deceased was in a fight with five women who are students at a local tertiary institution.

“It is further alleged that the fight ensued after the deceased proposed to one of the girls, but the female declined the advances. The group then attempted to scare the man away with a taser, which fell to the ground.

“The fight continued whilst the women were trying to regain possession of the taser from the deceased. The man was subsequently stabbed by one of the suspects during the commotion.”

Sigcu said the five suspects appeared at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on September 25.
“Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.”
