Violent wind rips off the roofs of apartment buildings

Early August winds cause damage in Vanderbijlpark

At least two apartment blocks in the vicinity of Frikkie Meyer Boulevard, Vanderbijlpark, had their roofs ripped off over the weekend. A part of Harmony Court’s roof, among other things, remained in the blow.

As far as Sedieng Ster understands, no one was injured in the incidents, but residents of the apartment block, motorists and other residents of the area expressed concern on social media as loose corrugated iron sheets on the roof pose a serious danger.

Frikkie Meyerboulevard and other parts of the Vaal Triangle have been hit by gusts of wind several times in recent years. The worst was around 1982 when gusts of around 100 kmpu also tore off the roofs of several apartment blocks in Frikkie Meyerboulevard.
