
VANDERBIJLPARK – Vanderbijlpark’s popular hangout spot, Kapito’s Lifestyle Lounge witnessed a night of terror on Saturday, July 29, as a brawl between two patrons escalated into a dangerous and alarming situation.
The incident, which involved the brandishing of what appeared to be a firearm, has left the management and patrons of Kapito’s shaken.
This is after a squabble over a missing vape saw the situation quickly intensify, with the attacker storming off to his car and returning with what seemed to be a deadly firearm.
Panic and fear swept through the establishment as the aggressor discharged two shots outside the premises before firing another round within the lounge.
Out of fear, patrons stormed out of the establishment without paying their bills and damaging the property.
However, in a stroke of luck, there were no serious injuries reported among the patrons, as it was later confirmed that the weapon used was a blank gun.
Club owner, Ehis Ebhonu said, “we take great pride in the environment we have created and will do everything within our powers and legal means to ensure that our patrons’ lounge in style, comfort, and above all, in a safe and secure environment.”
“As a result, we intend to prosecute the perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law. Though the incident cost the business tons of money as a result of damaged property and walkouts (people who ran off out of fear before paying their bills) we are comfortable with the fact that there were no serious injuries or loss of life,” he said.
Ebhonu emphasized that “we would like to reiterate our stance on violence at our establishment. We do not condone and will never condone violent conduct at our premises. If you are found to be perpetuating violence at Kapito’s, we will give you a lifetime ban and prosecute you to the greatest extent of the law.”
Vanderbijlpark police spokeswoman Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said they investigating a case of Discharging a firearm at a public place, and a 32-year-old suspect was arrested.
