Metsimaholo’s former speaker, Cllr Thabo Mabasa dies
Former Speaker, Mabasa passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, August 02.
Metsimaholo Local Municipality (MLM) is deeply saddened by the untimely death of its former Speaker, Cllr Thabo Mabasa (49).
Former Speaker, Mabasa passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, August 02, following a short illness.
In a statement on Thursday the current Speaker of MLM, Cllr Lucas Fisher said he believes that Mabasa’s death has sent shock waves throughout the entire Metsimaholo municipal area, as well as the Fezile Dabi Region and the Free State province as a lot was still expected from Mabasa in terms of his contribution to the development and changing the lives of communities.
“Death has robbed our community and the people of Fezile Dabi region of a humble dependable, and dedicated servant, Mabasa was one of the most courageous and fearless councillor’s in our community since his youthful day.”
“We have lost one of the most committed regional and community leaders and a community worker of note. His death has deprived us of one of the brightest rising stars in politics who was committed to the development of his community,” Fisher added.
At the time of Mabasa’s death, he was the Regional Secretary of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Fezile Dabi Region.
The ANC Youth League Fezile Dabi Region spokesperson, Babiki Dewet, also expressed her heartfelt condolences to the Mabasa family and the region’s population at large.
Dewet said in honoring Mabasa’s memory they have resolved to continue his legacy of unwavering dedication to the struggle of economic emancipation and the eradication of social inequalities.
“His passion for unity will guide us as we confront the challenges ahead.”
