Four to appear in court for murder of slain teacher

In a statement issued by Gauteng Provincial police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said "Preliminary investigation revealed that suspects, who were driving a Honda FRV motor vehicle, shot the woman while at the robots."

VEREENIGING.  – Four suspects are set to appear at the Vereenging Magistrates Court on Monday, April 08.

This comes after a 33-year-old Riverside High School, Palesa Mofokeng was assassinated on Friday morning in Vanderbijlpark.

Mofokeng, was shot in cold blood when she was on her way to work.

Following the shooting, the mother of one drove into a ditch just outside Curro Private School on Hendrik van Eck Boulevard.

On their arrival at the scene, police found the woman who was in the driver’s seat of a Nissan NP200 bakkie, with multiple bullet wounds on her body. She was certified dead on the scene.

A 48-hour manhunt was launched, and saw the suspects arrested in different locations in the Vaal.

In a statement issued by Gauteng Provincial police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said “Preliminary investigation revealed that suspects, who were driving a Honda FRV motor vehicle, shot the woman while at the robots.”

“Police immediately established a task team consisting of Sedibeng District Trio Task Team, Tactical Response Team, K9, Tracking team, and Provincial Crime Intelligence to trace and arrest the suspects,” he said.

Masondo added that “Through the intelligence led investigation, information led the team to Kliprivier, Sebokeng, Sharpeville, and Vereeniging, where four suspects were arrested.  Police also recovered the firearm and seized the vehicle used during the commission of crime.”

Meanwhile, several political parties including African National Congress Woman’s League and the Economic Freedom Fighters are at court to support the devastated family.
