Tatu: A self-taught Animator and Coder from the Free State

SEDIBENG. –  Melato Tatu, a young and talented self-taught animator and coder, has made a name for himself in the tech industry with his innovative creations.

Born and raised in Phiritona, Heilbron, Tatu attended Sediba Thuto Secondary School where he developed a passion for computers and animation at an early age.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools were closed and many people were forced to stay at home, Tatu used his time wisely and began working on his projects. He started by creating his own simple social media chatting app called ChatBase, which allows users to connect with friends and family in a safe and secure environment.

He told Sedibeng Ster that his passion for animation also led him to create Mzansi TOONZ, a platform that showcases his unique and creative animations. His animations are inspired by African culture and showcase the beauty and diversity of the continent.

Despite not having any formal training in animation or coding, Melato’s determination and hard work have paid off. He has become a role model for many young people in his community and has inspired them to pursue their passions and dreams.

His success story is a testament to the power of self-motivation and the importance of pursuing one’s passions. He has shown that with dedication and hard work, anything is possible, even for those who come from humble beginnings.
