SADTU Evaton South branch hosts awards

The awards serve as motivation for others to excel.

SEBOKENG.- The Evaton South Branch of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) recently hosted the 2023 Awards ceremony to honour hardworking schools and individuals in their respective subjects.

The event took place last Thursday at Tshepo-Themba Secondary School in Zone 6, drawing attendance from Evaton South Branch SADTU members, teachers, principals, and other distinguished guests.
Nine schools were recognised for their exceptional achievements in 2023: Tokelo Secondary School, Mashabane Secondary School, Tshepo-Themba Secondary School, Kgokare Secondary School, Jordaan Secondary School, Thandukwazi Secondary School, and Montsosi Primary School.

Manthethe Tsotetsi, the Educator Convener from SADTU Evaton South Branch, spoke to Sedibeng Ster about the awards, explaining that they were designed to celebrate schools and teachers who achieved 100% in their respective subjects.

One of the recipients, Mojalefe Nakana from Kgokare Secondary School, was recognised for his outstanding achievement in Mathematics, contributing to his school’s impressive 91% pass rate. Thuso Dolo from Thandukwazi Secondary School received an award for achieving 100% in Physical Science, while his school was named Top Achiever with a 98.1% pass rate.

Tokelo Secondary School received the Most Improved Award, with Kgutlo Tharo Secondary School coming in second. Montsosi Primary School was recognised for winning the 2023 mental Maths challenge. Tsotetsi expressed satisfaction with how the awards unfolded, emphasising that they were intended to acknowledge the hard work of schools and educators.

She noted that these awards serve as motivation for others to excel and thanked everyone involved in making the event a success, especially the stakeholders. Tsotetsi also highlighted the crucial role of teachers in educating the community, underscoring the importance of appreciating their dedication and contributions.
