SHARPEVILLE.- United Colours FC is one of the ambitious development clubs that was formed with the main aim of taking care of talent in the area.
The club is one of the few development clubs that are still active in the area after most of the teams affected by the formation of the NWU Vaal FC which campaign in the Gauteng Development League. When NWU Vaal announced the establishment of the team that will campaign in the above-mentioned league most players from the area including the coaches saw this as an opportunity to join this impressive structure.
Ironically, this affected some of the community development teams from the area.
However, this has left Sharpeville with a few development clubs with United Colours being the only club from the area campaigning in the junior soccer league. In the past Sharpeville was one of the areas that the league was played consistently until recently.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Benni Chesane who is the owner and chairman of United Colours said he is trying everything in his power to keep football development active in the area. Apart from playing in the development leagues, United Colours also play in the Emfuleni Local Football Association’s Super League.
Ghetto Seven FC and T Squad FC are also playing in the Super League but not in the development league this season.
“I’m trying very hard to have keep these youngsters busy because there are no more many development teams like in the past in Sharpeville. I don’t know the reason for this but as United Colours FC our duty is not to let the development of football die in the area. As much as we play in Super League, my priority is development. There is a lot of talent in Sharpeville unfortunately we don’t have many development teams like we used to have in the past,” said Chesane.
For example, Celeb Academy and Sharpeville Benfica FC are some of the household name development teams in Sharpeville even though they don’t participate in the development leagues this season. However, these two teams have been the backbone of the development of football in Sedibeng with players such as Tshepang Moremi and Rethabile Mofokeng coming from these teams. This tells you something about the area since the days of Simon “Bull” Lehoko and Augustine Makalakalane to mention but only these two legendary former greats.
