SEDIBENG.- It is that time of the year when we will be celebrating Youth Day, today with June known as Youth Month.

At this time of the month, businesses and companies are prepared to spend money to host events in the name of Youth Month.  Those big cooperates will be spending money to organise activities for young people throughout the country. However, Zakes’ Sports Corner has a problem with this, with big cooperates only prepared to spend money to fund and organise activities for young people.

Why not throughout out the year, and only when it is Youth Month and Youth Day.

For example, today there are hive of activities that took place throughout the country in the name of Youth Day. The truth is that, after this, they will forget those young people as if they don’t exist. This is a sad reality about young people’s situation in our country with big cooperates only showing interest to them at this time of the year. The reality is that, they come with their brands to promote them at the expenses of young people. However, people do not see anything wrong about this.

MATTER OF FACT, young people are desperate for jobs than this ‘once-off project’.

We must face the reality as a nation, unemployment is the biggest concern in our community with young people with qualifications idling, taking care of their siblings when their parents are at work.

This is not what they paid school fees for!

Those big cooperates should invest their resources to sustain those projects to empower young people not only when it is Youth Day. Zakes’ Sports Corner grew up in the community where young people were regarded as the future leaders of the society or country.

But not anymore!

If asked what Zakes’ Sports Corner thinks of Youth Day or Youth Month, my immediate response would be, “Youth Month my voet” as long it doesn’t benefit young people in our communities.”

After Youth Day young people will still be unemployed. I just said it, Youth Day or “Youth Month my voet without any contradiction!
