VEREENIGING. – The Rust-Ter-Vaal Primary School held a Sports Award Ceremony on October 17. The ceremony held at the Rust-Ter-Vaal Community Hall was supported by parents and the community at large.

The event aimed to encourage learners by giving them recognition for their participation in various sporting activities at the school.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the Sports Master Clifton Abrahams said the event is a great motivation for the kids and it also creates an alternative career choice for learners that don’t want to go into the route of academics.

Abrahams said apart from sports being an alternative career choice, it is something positive that contributes to the growth of the community.

“Through sports, we can identify the talents of these kids and we are also able to keep them away from the negative ills of society. Other learners come from poverty and sports can change their lives.”

Abrahams conveyed words of appreciation to the parents for always granting the kids and the school their support.

“I would also like to thank my team for making this event possible and assisting their kids in various sports. I would not be able to do or achieve anything without them. They are a big part of the success of our sporting codes. “

The kids were honored for participating in sporting codes including Cross Country, Rugby, Soccer, and Netball.

Abrahams congratulated the overall winners Senior Sportsman of the Year Christiano Sikhosana, Senior Sportswoman of the Year Junita Adams, and Junior Sportswoman of the Year Lameeq Hein.
