VANDERBIJLPARK.- VUT FC began where they left off last season.
“The students” started the 2024/2025 season like a house on fire making their intentions clear.
They hammered Vaal Elite Sports Academy (VESA) 4-1 in the South African Association (SAFA) Sedibeng Hollywood Bets Regional League match played at the Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday. It was a doubleheader as Orlando Pirates and Chippa United played at the same venue earlier on the day. The VUT FC and VESA game was supposed to start at 12:00 but it was delayed due to the DSTV Diski Challenge match between Pirates and United. The game started 30 minutes late. It was like a walk in the park for VUT FC as they showed no mercy for their opponents.

This is the second game they played this season and they won both games convincingly. In the first game, they beat the newly promoted 016 FC 9-0. They have scored a total of 13 goals in two games. “The students” were crowned the champions in Stream B last season, while Young Pirates FC was declared the winner in Stream A.

Ironically, they lost to Young Pirates FC in the Stream play-offs to determine the team that would represent Sedibeng at the Inter-Regional play-offs. This season is going to be very interesting as the number of teams has increased to twenty. In fact, this season unlike the previous season, Safa Sedibeng has formed one stream. Many believe this would bring stiff competition in the regional men’s league. This is something that some club officials have been waiting to happen.

However, others told Sedibeng Ster Sport that this is going to be costly, especially in terms of transport. “We don’t have a problem with one stream but our only concern is the number of teams. This means we are going to spend more than we did last season in terms of transport,” said the match official who didn’t want his name to be mentioned.
