Young barista shot in the head during robbery

He had a way of putting smiles on the faces of his customers.

MEYERTON – Many residents will remember him as the friendly young barista behind the counter at the Platō coffee shop.

His voice is now forever silent and his friendly smile gone.

Xolani Makghato, also known as Mr X, died of injuries he sustained when robbers shot him in the head during an armed robbery in Orange Farm.

Sedibeng Ster understands his girlfriend was present when it happened.

Xolani was the father of a young girl.

Police spokesperson Captain Teboho Lephoto could not provide more information about the incident to Sedibeng Ster.

Tributes for Xolani poured in on Facebook.

Wendy Thomas-Taljaard, owner of the Platō coffee shop in Meyerton, said in her post: “It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our brother and valued barista. Xolani, thank you for putting so many smiles on the faces of our customers. It is a senseless robbery that resulted in you being taken from us. May God comfort your family and friends during this sad time.”
