Armed suspects steal money from cash van in Zone 6

EVATON. – The police have launched a manhunt after armed suspects made away with an undisclosed amount of money after robbing a cash van that was making rounds at various business premises.
The incident happened in broad daylight at the TK petrol station in Zone 6 on Monday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Constable Thulisile Msibi reports: “The complainant reported on duty as a crewman to collect money bags from clients. After collecting money from several businesses, the team was enroute to make a collection at the TK petrol station.”
“When the vehicle stopped at the garage, the crewman stepped out of the van and went to the back of the truck. He opened the door to collect the carrier box and was accosted by an armed man while he was locking the door.”

“He fled after hearing gunshots, leaving the driver inside the truck.” Msibi states that the man returned a few moments later to find the driver still inside the cash van.
“The driver said three armed men pointed at him with guns and asked him for a rifle. When he informed them that he didn’t have it, they assaulted him with a gun. The suspects further instructed him to open the back door and seized bags of money that were not in the safe.”
Msibi confirms that an undisclosed amount of money was taken from the truck.
“All the suspects left the scene in a blue VW that didn’t have registration number plates. A case docket is open for further investigation at the Evaton police station.”
