ELM dispels fake water reports

Radebe assures consumers that the municipality's drinking water is of the highest quality and is subjected to mandatory purification processes as a legislative requirement.

The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) cautions consumers about fake voice notes doing the rounds on social media platforms claiming that portable water has been poisoned and compromised at the reservoirs.

The ELM has through its media Relations Officer Chuchi Radebe refutes these allegations.

“The same voice notes mention areas in the Free State Province which makes them non-factual and false. ELM receives water supply from Rand Water through a complex network of pressurised pipelines. The reservoirs supplying all our consumers have 24-hour security in place.”

Radebe assures consumers that the municipality’s drinking water is of the highest quality and is subjected to mandatory purification processes as a legislative requirement.

“Consumers are advised not to panic because of fake reports and urged to stop circulating the voice note. Members of the public who observe suspicious acts on any municipal water infrastructure are requested to report such acts to Metsi-a-Lekoa or the nearest SAPS.”
