SEDIBENG.- With South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan in the spotlight after his recent arrest, Sedibeng Ster reflected on SAFA Sedibeng’s decision to vote Jordaan into power at the time.

SAFA Sedibeng Regional Executive Committee (REC), under the leadership of Xolani Mtumtum, was divided on whom to support between Dr Irvin Khoza and Jordaan. These two powerful figures in South African football went head-to-head for SAFA President. This was after Dr Molefi Oliphant announced his retirement after his term concluded as SAFA President.

The emails were flying all over the place with SAFA Sedibeng executives in disagreement about whom to vote for between the two powerful football administrators. The emails also mentioned some people at the background especially those who were opposed to Jordan’s election. Speaking to the former SAFA Sedibeng Regional Secretary, Star Hlongwane after the breaking news of Jordaan’s arrest, he acknowledged that the region voted for Jordaan.

“Yes, I still remember it like yesterday, we were divided but eventually agreed to vote Jordaan, and as they say the rest is history. In fact, by then we saw it fitting to vote him into power, but I’m not in a position to comment on his arrest,” said Hlongwane.

The news of Jordaan’s arrest shocked the Sedibeng football fraternity, especially those who supported him. Jordaan has been released on R20 000 bail. He is expected to appear in court again on December 5.
