Nine primary school children allegedly poisoned in Vaal Marina

“We interviewed one of the alleged poisoned children and she confirmed that they bought the biscuits in Mamello.”

VAAL MARINA.- Nine school children from Mamello in Vaal Marina reportedly came back from school early sick after they allegedly ate biscuits bought from a local spaza shop yesterday, Wednesday.

According to police spokesperson Constable Tshilidzi de Huis, on Wednesday the police received a call from one of Mamello informal settlement community members who reported that the children, all from Tikelo Intermediate School, came back from school reported sick after eating biscuits from a local tuck-shop.

Constable De Huis said that the police went to school to interview the children today, Thursday, only to discover that one of them was in hospital because she was vomiting blood.

“We interviewed one of the alleged poisoned children and she confirmed that they bought the biscuits in Mamello.”

No case has been opened at the moment and Constable De Huis said that the matter has been reported to the Department of Education in the District.

At the time of going to print Sedibeng Ster was awaiting response from the department.
