SHARPEVILLE.- Relebohile Mofokeng has done it once again.
The Orlando Pirates dribbling wizard beat his Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams to scoop the Sports Personality of the Year Award. The Gauteng Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation hosted the ceremony in Johannesburg on Sunday night.
The event was also broadcast live on SABC1.
This shows how Mofokeng has established himself as a household name in South African football. He is the hottest property in South African football at the moment. He has been outstanding for Orlando Pirates for the past two seasons, helping the club win crucial matches, especially the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup. Mofokeng will undoubtedly be part of Bafana Bafana’s African Cup of Nations, probably the youngest on the team.
After he scooped this award, Mofokeng thanked everyone who voted for him and said that this award showed how much people appreciated his talent. His father Sechaba Mofokeng was the man behind this successful campaign who encouraged people, especially from the Vaal to vote in big numbers.
Mofokeng (Relebohile) said this award will go down as one of the best things to happen in his football career.
“I want to thank everyone who took the time to vote for me to win this award. It was not easy because I was competing with Ronwen Williams. Currently, he is one of the best goalkeepers in Africa and he is also my captain at Bafana Bafana.”
