"If you think compliance is expensive – try non-compliance".
SEDIBENG.- Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Sports Recreation Arts and Culture Library Information Services Parks and Cemeteries, Setlhare Mahlasela encourages events organisers to participate in Mzansi Golden Economy Funding.
Mahlasela recently encouraged event organisers to apply for funding through the Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) initiative at a workshop held at the Eldorado Arts Centre in Sebokeng Zone 14, last Friday.
The Mzansi Golden Economy is a funding programme aimed at supporting the cultural and creative industries, including arts, culture, and heritage. The National Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture launched an open call for applications from 8 November, with a deadline of 6 December 2024.
Event organisers are encouraged to apply via the government portal at www.eservices.gov.za.

During his remarks, Mahlasela referenced the quote by former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty, “If you think compliance is expensive – try non-compliance,” underscoring the importance of adhering to regulations. The workshop, which focused on compliance for hosting events, brought together local organisers to discuss critical issues such as safety protocols, permit requirements, and risk management strategies.
The ELM also presented an “Events Staging” public notice, aimed at helping organisers comply with event risk management regulations to prevent disasters and ensure smooth, lawful events. The session was well-received by attendees, with many praising its informative and structured approach.
“We express our gratitude to all participants and presenters who contributed to the workshop’s success, highlighting the crucial role compliance plays in fostering safe and successful events in the community. As we approach the festive season, I extend warmest wishes to all our residents for a joyous and prosperous holiday season. May your travels be safe and enjoyable as you attend compliant events. Let us prioritise our safety and well-being during this time of celebration,” concluded Mahlasela.
