Township residents without power for a day

"They want to rob us in the dark."

SEBOKENG.- Half of one of the biggest townships in the country, Sebokeng, was left without electricity on Sunday.

This was after the national electricity supplier, Eskom, reported acts of vandalism at the Seboka Substation between Zone 10 Ext 3 and Zone 7. Community members suspect sabotage, amidst the festive season, with criminals at the height of their acts.

“We have not had load-shedding for months now and Eskom is also busy fixing the issue of non-compliance and renewals, so we believe that criminals are taking advantage of the situation. They are also taking advantage as it is right in the middle of the festive season when many people are getting their bonuses, and others are fixing their houses. They want to rob us in the dark,” community members said.

The power utility reported that the interruption of electricity supply affected Small Farms, New Village, and Zones 3,6,7,8,12,10,11, and 13.

Power was restored to some sections during the early hours of Monday.
