Academy Champ of Champs Cup comes to an end

VEREENIGING.- As promised the Academy Champ of Champs Cup produced fireworks with participating teams living up to expectations.
This development tournament, hosted by JJ Sporting FC took place at Dick Fourie Stadium on Friday and Saturday, saw the following age categories, U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 and, U19.Spectators and parents enjoyed every moment of action. Rovers FC was crowned the tournament champions in the divisions, U13, U15, and U17.
The tournament was run on a points system with the top teams in the final. This Champ of Champs Cup saw the Gauteng Development League (DGL) teams campaign in Stream B. It was also an opportunity to scout players for next season. Rovers FC and JJ Sporting FC were among the teams that campaigned in the DGL Stream B playing against the local development teams.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport after the tournament, Tyrone Koller hailed this tournament as a great initiative to end the year.
He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that this tournament is going to be an annual event because of the demand. According to Koller, he is going to organise a similar tournament next year in January as part of the pre-season preparations. Koller said he was stunned by the kind of football all the teams displayed throughout the tournament. It was high-tempo games with games taking only 25 minutes.
“As JJ Sporting FC we want to thank all the participating teams for making this tournament a great success. I must say it was a great advert for football,” said Koller.
The winning teams received a soccer kit, match soccer balls, and medals for their effort, while the runners-up received silver medals. There were also individual prizes for Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament.
