Rand Water Vanderbijlpark reservoir shutdown update

The team has successfully replaced 3 of the 4 valves. Cleaning and assessment of 4 of the 5 reservoirs have been completed, the remaining reservoir is currently being assessed.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Efforts to restore water supply to consumers in CW areas, NW7, Vanderbijlpark CBD, Bophelong, Bophelong Extensions, Bonanne, and surrounding agricultural holdings (plots) continue.

Rand Water and the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) planned a 24-hour shutdown, however, due to technical complications, the water supply interruption remains in place. As per the plan, technicians closed the water inlets to the reservoir on Sunday and it took 20 hours for reservoirs to drain. Work to replace valves and assess reservoirs commenced on Monday, December 9.

The team has successfully replaced 3 of the 4 valves. Cleaning and assessment of 4 of the 5 reservoirs have been completed, the remaining reservoir is currently being assessed.

Twenty water tankers are still on the ground supplying the affected consumers.

For water points, consumers are urged to contact their respective Ward Councillors. This necessary work forms part of the municipality’s response to non-revenue water losses.

The municipality is pleading for patience from all affected consumers.
