Radio man gives back to community

Sethabela thanks everyone who contributed in making the day a success.

SEDIBENG. – Thetha FM Presenter Ishmael Kent Sethabela has warmed the hearts of the Vaal community after spending his special day giving back to the pupils of Seeiso Primary School in Bophelong. The event happened on 1 February.

Sethabela was supported by scores of community members affiliated with different biker clubs, car clubs, local business owners, NGOs, the Vanderbijlpark SAPS, various organizations, and the community at large.

On the day, over 300 pupils got their hair done, with boys getting haircuts while girls got their hair braided for free by the Linzo Hair Academy as well as other volunteers who were there to support the initiative.

Speaking to Ster North, Sethabela said the initiative which he started six years ago was inspired by his background.

“As a child, I had a very low self-esteem as I saw that my situation was a bit dire than that of my peers. But to my surprise, whenever I would get a new haircut, my self-confidence would escalate to a new level.”

Sethabela says this taught him that a clean fresh hairstyle or haircut is a big confidence booster for kids.

“Mine was to show the kids that they matter and they are valued. This initiative aims to plant a seed of a positive inspiration to the community. I want to show these kids that their background does not determine where they are going in life.”

The day boasted motivational speeches, with some of the speakers urging kids to work hard so that they can have a brighter future. Kids were gifted with school shoes on the day, followed by a lunch they were all able to enjoy.

“We acknowledge the history of this school as it is one of the oldest schools in the Vaal. I thank all the stakeholders for the success of the charity. We had a blessed day and the kids were jubilant.”
