Vaal Hall of Fame…why not?!
The upcoming generation must know the history of this region when it comes to sports.

SEDIBENG.- This is not the first time Zakes’ Sports Corner suggested the idea of the Vaal having a Hall of Fame.
There is a serious need to have a Vaal Hall of Fame, especially considering what we have achieved as a region in the sporting arena. It is an open secret that the Vaal is the feeder of South African sports, especially football. The Vaal has produced many household names in the international sporting arena, the administration, coaching, athletics, boxing, and football.
Yes boxing, this region produced the boxing champions Aaron ‘Ak47’ Kabi, David Potsane, Carlton ‘Swing-Carlie’ Monnakgotla, Shole Mokoena, Shamba Mthimkulu and Baby ‘Lux’ Khambule to mention only a few. As if this is not enough, the region also produced Olympic stars like John Morapedi, Norman Dlomo, and Bongane Mahlangu. When it comes to football, there is no doubt that this region had great football players who went to make names for themselves abroad.
Former Bafana Bafana dreadlocked midfielder, Augustine Makalakalane and Aaron ‘Mbazo’ Mokoena are some of the famous local players playing overseas for more than 10 years. So, don’t you think this region needs a Hall of Fame where these heroes can be honoured and paraded? We have achieved a lot in the region nationally and internationally. The same region produced par-excellence football administrators and coaches.
Dr Molefi Oliphant, Simon ‘Bull’ Lehoko, Kenneth ‘Conti’ Kubheka, and George Thabe were some of the par-excellence individuals who put this region on the world map. Zakes’ Sports Corner challenges the Sedibeng District Municipality, Emfuleni Local Municipality, and Gauteng Department of Sport and Recreation to establish the Hall of Fames to recognise those men and women who put this region on the world map.
The upcoming generation must know the history of this region when it comes to sports.
The reality is that this region continues to produce great players in the history of South African football. Relebohile Mofokeng is one of the most notable young players to have come out of Vaal Triangle making headlines in South African football. Zakes’s Sports Corner believes that the best way to give the above-mentioned people flowers is to establish a Hall of Fame.
Zakes’ Sports Corner thanks you in advance!
