School safety educational court visits at Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court

The pupils were told to refrain from any bad behaviour as it would lead them to jail and they may end up having criminal records

SEBOKENG:- The Sebokeng SAPS (VFF), Department of Social Development, Department of Education, Department of Justice, and Indibano, took learners from Mthombolwazi and Tshidiso Primary Schools to Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court for a visit on Monday and Tuesday.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said this programme was initiated by Tshepiso Matsoso from the Department of Social Development, in collaboration with other stakeholders.

The visits aimed to educate the learners about the following.

– Drugs

– Bullying

– Gangsterism

– Illegal gambling

– Sexual offences

– Assault in general

– GBV

– Child Abuse

–  Discipline and respect.

The pupils were told to refrain from any bad behaviour as it would lead them to jail and they may end up having criminal records.

“The Prosecutor Freddie Nkgapele educated the learners about the Justice system and the process of being sentenced.  He urged the learners to seek help from their parents and teachers if they face any challenge, be it substance abuse or other social challenges,” Mokhachane said.

Mokhachane also educated the learners about bullying as well as its negative impact on society. She further educated the learners to respect other people despite their titles.

Happy Lethoba from Indibano, an NGO taught learners about bullying and explained that even when your peer forcefully takes your lunchbox or forces you to give them money it is also bullying. He emphasised the dangers of being involved in gangsterism and how it can affect the children’s future.

He pleaded with the learners to respect their teachers.

Lastly, Mammuso Kankola educated the learners about GBV, sexual offenses, different types of assaults, and the importance of being educated.

The school’s management expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the stakeholders and asked for the programme to continue as learners are motivated by other departments.
