Dangers of substance abuse highlighted

DE DEUR – The police working together with various law enforcement continue in their efforts to reduce the use of dangerous substances in the community.

This follows a recent comprehensive door-to-door awareness campaign in Lakeside Estate conducted by De Deur SAPS, in collaboration with the Department of Community Safety, Siyabangena Patrollers, and Crime Prevention Wardens.

The objective of the initiative was to enlighten the community about the perils of substance abuse and its devastating consequences.

Police spokesperson Constable Mampho Mahlomola said: “The community was educated that substance abuse encompasses not only the illicit use of narcotics but the excessive consumption of alcohol and the misuse of prescribed or over-the-counter medications.

“It was emphasised that substance abuse has far-reaching, deleterious consequences that can negatively impact one’s professional, academic, domestic, and interpersonal relationships. Moreover, it can lead to entanglements with the law and severe health complications.”
