ActionSA wants improved communication in ELM

"This move is unfair, demonstrates incompetence, and highlights the need for transparency and communication."

SEDIBENG. – ActionSA’s regional chair, Bongani Dhlamini, has expressed his disappointment with Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) mayor Sipho Radebe’s alleged decision to return allocated funds to the Treasury without engaging the community.

Dhlamini said he believes this move is unfair, demonstrates incompetence, and highlights the need for transparency and communication between the municipality and its constituents. He added that by prioritising community engagement and transparency, the ELM can rebuild trust and ensure that the people of Emfuleni receive the services they deserve.

“The people of Emfuleni deserve better,” he said.

Key concerns raised by ActionSA:

– Lack of community engagement: The decision was made without consulting the community, leaving them uninformed about crucial fund allocation and return decisions.

– Disconnect between municipality and community: The response suggests a disconnect between the municipality’s decision-making process and the community’s needs.

– Inadequate communication: Dhlamini emphasises the importance of direct engagement and explanation to the community, rather than relying on media coverage.

Dhlamini urged the ELM to take immediate steps to improve communication and engagement with the community, stressing that transparency and accountability are vital for effective governance.
