De Deur police condemn acts of vigilantism

DE DEUR – The police have issued a stern warning to members of the community who take the law into their own hands, saying that it will not be tolerated.
Speaking to Ster North, police spokesperson Mampho Mahlomola said SAPS does not condone the actions of community members who believe they are serving justice to victims by assaulting suspects.
“The police are warning the community to refrain from partaking in such cases. Mob justice is a serious offense. Moreover, mob justice interferes with police investigations and getting justice for the victim in a correct manner.”
Mahlomola highlighted that there are serious repercussions of mob justice and this could lead to one’s future being compromised by a criminal record. She urges community members not to just stand by but to report incidences of mob justice happening in their communities.
“If the community catches someone in the commission of a crime or believed to have committed any form of crime, the community is advised to immediately notify the police.”
