Thandukwazi learner shines at national baking competition

Sthonga’s achievement is a testament to the school’s dedication to nurturing young talent.

SEBOKENG. – Staff and pupils from Thandukwazi Secondary School in Zone 6 must be beaming with pride as one of their talented learners, Refiloe Jane Sthonga, was placed 4th in the national ‘Rise to the Challenge’ competition.

This is an initiative by Anchor Yeast that empowers young bakers with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge.

The competition saw 55 learners from underprivileged schools across Limpopo, North West, Gauteng, Free State, and KwaZulu-Natal showcase their baking skills in a high-stake bake-off. Sthonga impressed the judges, including celebrity chef Benny Masekwameng, with her delicious Swedish Tea Ring, earning a 4th place finish in the national finals.

As part of the prize, Thandukwazi Secondary School will receive baking equipment and Anchor Instant Yeast to support future learners on their culinary journey – a wonderful contribution to the school’s Consumer Studies programme.

Sthonga’s achievement is a testament to the school’s dedication to nurturing young talent and inspiring learners to pursue their dreams through education and entrepreneurship.
