Promising young athlete qualifies for SAs

She needs financial help to make it to Cape Town for the ASA Championships.

MEYERTON – Maruzé Marais, a talented U15 athlete, has secured her place at the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Championships.

The prestigious event will take place from March 27 to 30 at the Groenpunt Stadium in Cape Town.

Maruzé, a versatile athlete, has qualified for both the 90m hurdles and the 300m hurdles.

Maruzé secured her place at the ASA Championships with her impressive performance at the recent D7 Championships at the DP de Villiers Stadium in Sasolburg.

Despite her remarkable achievement, her mother, Anneke, expressed concern about the financial pressure to fund the trip.

“I looked at accommodation just for the period from the 27th to the 30th, and it will cost more than R7 000. Then there is fuel, which will probably be in the region of R5 000,” Anneke told Vaalweekblad.

“The total cost will probably be around R12 000, not even taking into account meals for the three days,” she added.

Anneke admits that it is difficult for her to ask for financial help, but she believes it is necessary to give her daughter the opportunity she has worked so hard for.

“Maruzé is blossoming, especially with the hurdles. I feel bad asking for help, but she deserves this chance.”

Anyone who can provide financial assistance can contact Anneke on 079 837 4571.

Direct payments can also be made into Anneke’s Capitec bank account. The savings account number is 161 736 1621.
