SEBOKENG.– The Sebokeng police have launched an investigation after a 33-year-old woman was shot and killed near Mandela Square on the evening of Friday, 21 March.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane, said that the victim was with a companion who had parked inside Mandela Square, as he usually does.

While he was still parking, he heard gunshots outside. Security officers quickly approached him and informed him that the person he was with had been shot. Rushing to his car, he found the woman lying in the driver’s seat, bleeding but still breathing. With the help of a security officer, he moved her to the back seat and drove her to Sebokeng Hospital for urgent medical assistance.

However, after a few minutes of treatment, medical staff informed him that she had succumbed to her injuries.

Mokhachane further confirmed that police are investigating the incident and are calling on the public to come forward with any information.

“The motive behind the shooting remains unknown at this stage. We urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to assist us in identifying the suspects,” said Mokhachane.
