Usuthu babies beat Pirates in the mouth watering DDC match in Vaal

Usuthu’s supporters were the loudest of the two, and it didn’t come as a shock when they beat the home team.

VANDERBIJLPARK-. It was a three-goal thriller when Amazulu beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the entertaining DTSTV Diski Challenge (DDC).

This mouth-watering encounter took place at Vaal University of Technology (VUT)’s Isak Steyl Stadium in Vaal on Saturday. The local soccer fans, the majority of them VUT and NWU Vaal students, packed the venue to capacity. Usuthu’s supporters were the loudest of the two, and it didn’t come as a shock when they beat the home team.

This is the second defeat for Pirates’ babies after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs the previous weekend. However, Pirates are to be blamed for this defeat after creating so many chances in the first half. The game went to half-time, with both sides sharing the spoil, 0-0. Pirates was the better side in the first half, and they could have gone into half-time at least leading Amazulu to 1-0 but failed to convert their chances into goals.

Pirates Coach, Joseph Makhanya kicked his heels in frustration on the sidelines as he looked in disbelief when his side failed to apply simple football basics. Amazulu, however, were not pushovers as they made some entrance into Pirates’ 18 area but were let down by their decision-making. They came into the second half with a different attitude, forcing Pirates to defend with their backs on the wall.

It was a great game of football, and the local soccer fans enjoyed every moment of action.

Makhanya was disappointed after the game because he felt that they had a good chance to wrap up this game in the first half if they converted all the glorious chances they created.

“We didn’t deserve to lose this game, and you saw for yourself that we could have gone to half-time with two goals up. Congratulations to Amazulu because they took their chances, unlike us,’ said a disappointed Makhanya.
