VANDERBIJLPARK.- Vaal University of Technology (VUT) FC caused an upset when they beat Perfect Academy 2-0.
These two sides battled it out for three points in the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywood fixture to close the gap at the top of the log with Young Pirates FC topping the standings. This encounter formed part of the double header between the DStv Diski Challenge match between Orlando Pirates and Amazulu at the Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday.
The game followed immediately after the Pirates and Amazulu game.

It was an exciting game to watch, as VUT FC came into this game with a plan. They were up against a team that was second on the log standings. VUT FC redeem themselves after they lost against RESA in the previous game. On the other hand, Perfect Academy came into this game as favourites after their 5-0 win against Army FC. However, VUT FC were on the better side of the day, making use of the chances they created.
They used their home ground to their advantage on the day, with Perfect Academy struggling to cope with the intensity of the game. VUT FC denied the visitors a space to play, especially building from the back. They applied pressure, forcing them to commit some errors at the back.
Perfect Academy is well known for their fast-flowing game, playing from the back, penetrating in the middle of the park to the final third. However, it was not their day.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Perfect Academy’s coach Sechaba Mofokeng said it was a great game of football regardless of the results in favour of VUT FC. “We tried our best, but our opponents wanted it most and we accept the defeat and move on.”
