Speaking to Ster North, DA PR Councilor Thandi Mthimkhulu said that they were taking a firm stand against the abuse of women and children.

“We have been greatly affected by what has happened to 7-year-old Cwecwe. We demand justice for her and other young children, vulnerable persons both male and female who have been violated on premises such as schools, churches and similar areas that are meant to be safe spaces.”
Mthimkhulu said that they call on the government to identify ways to protect victims and survivors of GBV and Femicide through the SAPS and Social development Department.

DAWN called on the Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube to change the law and ensure that all adults working with children are vetted against the national sexual offender’s database.
“As parents we expect the school to protect our kids. Teachers are parents to our kids while they are at school. We are taking a stand for every child and every person who has been left with no answer.”
By signing the petition, residents also pledged to speak out about matters of GBV and also call out those who make inappropriate suggestions and jokes about GBV in their communities.
