Fighters from Meyerton Fighting Systems, under the leadership of Sensei David Kies, delivered a standout performance at the South African National Kickboxing Championships held in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, from April 26 to 29.
The martial arts club, based at 10 Rissik Street in Meyerton, specialises in kickboxing with a strong emphasis on Shidokan—a fullcontact karate style that combines stand-up striking, grappling, and intense conditioning.
This year, the club proudly returned with 19 national champions—four more than last year’s tally of 15.
The team collected an impressive medal haul: 26 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and six bronze medals.
Several fighters competed across multiple divisions, showcasing the depth of talent and versatility within the squad.
Sensei Kies, known for his hands-on coaching style and commitment to student development, has played a pivotal role in shaping the club into a competitive force on both national and international stages.
Meyerton Fighting Systems has previously seen success at events like the WAKO African Championships.
Beyond the medals, the gym fosters a culture of discipline, mental resilience, and mutual respect. Its training philosophy promotes not only physical excellence but also personal growth and camaraderie among students.
With their latest achievements, the fighters from Meyerton have once again proven that dedication, teamwork, and expert coaching can yield championship results.
