SEDIBENG – A multi-layered crime cracking operation has proven fruitful for the SAPS Sedibeng District. This is after multidisciplinary forces carried out intelligence-led policing merged with, early investigative work by Detective Services, and high-visibility enforcement under operation Shanela.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela reports that the initiative was driven by focused detective deployments conducted prior to the operation, which directly led to the arrest of 87 suspects linked to various serious crimes.
“These arrests were further supported by integrated efforts during Shanela rollout, resulting in a total of 115 arrests over a period of two days.
“The social crime prevention campaign where SAPS, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, visited Mofolo Technical school for a dialogue focused on ensuring the safety of learners.”
Maxambela states that an awareness campaign with a reach of 340 people was carried out without any threats being identified.
A total of 340 reached through educational awareness and no serious threats were identified.
Operation Commander acting Sedibeng District Commissioner Brigadier Mashole Manamela, together with senior SAPS management and local law enforcement, led a public engagement at Evaton North to discuss crime, raise concerns, and discuss strategies to curb crime, particularly around the schools and surrounding areas.
During the operation, a total of 15 traffic fines were issued to motorists for various violations at a roadblock, while other exhibits including mandrax tablets, crystal meth, and nyaope sachets were seized during search operations.
