VANDERBIJLPARK.- It was action galore when the local schools battled it out in the Sports Against Crime Games.
This annual tournament, which saw the four local schools pitted against each other, took place at Isak Steyl Stadium, in Vanderbijlpark, on Saturday.
The four schools that formed part of this Sports Against Crime Games were Dr. Oliphant Secondary, Suncrest High, Vaal High, and Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark. The sporting codes that formed part of these games were soccer, both boys’ and girls’, and netball. It was exciting games to watch, with the netball game between Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark and Vaal High as the best game of the day.

Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark displayed a mouth-watering, intense game of netball.

It was goal after goal with Siphokuhle Hlatswayo leading the Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark’s attack. She was Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament. Hlatswayo was all over Vaal High’s scoring area, either creating or scoring goals.

This came as no surprise when Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark crowned the tournament champions in the netball section thanks to Hlatswayo. She was instrumental in all the games that her school played on the day, especially scoring crucial goals as a Goal Attacker.

In another game, Dr. Oliphant Secondary School and Suncrest High also produced a five-star performance. Dr. Oliphant started the game like a house on fire. In fact, this game also produced several goals, just like the Vaal High and Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark game. However, Suncrest High booked their place in the final against Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark. Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark were crowned the champions after they beat Suncrest High 23-20 in the exciting final to watch. In the soccer section, Suncrest High was crowned the champions after they beat Vaal High in the final.

COACH WORDS: Matumo Mofokeng “I’m happy how the girls played, and they deserved to be the champions. They were outstanding from the first game against Vaal High, and being the tournament champions is the cherry on top.”
