Izingwenya FC successfully defends their title

This final kept the soccer fans on the edge of their seats as both teams displayed high-quality football.

BOPHELONG.- Izingwenya FC successfully defended their title at the Duku Duku 4th Annual Super16 Winter Tournament.

Izingwenya FC demonstrated why they are called “Izingwenya” when they beat Government FC 5-4 in the nail-biting final. This final came to an end at France grounds Ext 15 in Movhango on Saturday. The game was decided on penalties after a full-time score 1-1.

To make it interesting, Izingwenya FC won all their games on penalties.

This final kept the soccer fans on the edge of their seats as both teams displayed high-quality football. It was two teams that appreciated ball possession, with their players not shy to express themselves. This is why they call it kasi football, players are given the freedom of expression to entertain soccer fans.

The winners received a R30 000 cheque.

For their effort, they also received a sheep (livestock), a soccer kit, and medals, while the runners-up, Government FC received R5000, a soccer kit, and medals. The local soccer fans packed the venue to capacity since the tournament started. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the tournament organizer, Molife ‘Duku Duku’ Mahlangu said this year’s tournament was simply the best.

He added that the participating teams set the standard high.

“I do not doubt that everyone enjoyed this final, with both teams displaying quality football. It was a great final to watch and these soccer fans enjoyed every moment of the action. Congratulations to Izingwenya FC for winning this tournament two consecutive years.
They were a very organised team, and they deserve to win this tournament again. They had an experienced player who knew how to win the games,” said Mahlangu.
