SDM Speaker donates soccer kit on Mandela Day

Sport plays an important role in shaping society, especially the youth.

SEBOKENG.- The Sedibeng District Municipality’s (SDM) Speaker,  Moipone Modikeng, donated a soccer kit to a community soccer team, Timalebone FC.

This handover of the soccer kit took place at Lakeside Hall on Mandela Day.

This donation formed part of the Mandela Day celebration as the rest of the country joined hands in celebrating this iconic day on the calendar. Modikeng and her team dedicated this day to recognising this disadvantaged soccer team in the community. The club is one of the most promising teams in the community, with no formal sponsorship, and this donation came at the right time.

Like other teams in the community, Timalebone FC is committed to the development of football in the area. However, their only challenge was a lack of sponsorship, thanks to Modikeng for recognising their effort.

This donation will go down as one of the best things to happen to the club to play with a decent soccer kit. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Modikeng said this initiative is a part of SDM’s ongoing commitment to support youth development and to ensure that young people stay involved in sports and off the streets.

She said she was overwhelmed by how the club appreciated this donation to show how much this means to them. She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that this is SDM ‘s commitment to make a difference to the lives of the young people within the community. Modikeng believes that sport plays an important role in shaping society, especially the youth.

“Sport remains a powerful tool for social change, discipline, and our youth. We are investing in a safer, healthier, and more united future.
We are aware that this team and other teams in the community don’t have any form of sponsorship, hence we decided to dedicate this day specially to donate a soccer kit to them,” she said.
