R59 workers protest disrupts traffic

Tyres burn and traffic grinds to a halt as CWP workers take their protest to the R59.

MEYERTON – A protest which appears to involve workers from the Community Work Programme (CWP) is currently disrupting traffic on the R59 highway (northbound) between the Johan le Roux and Meyer Street off-ramps in Meyerton, Gauteng.

Demonstrators, reportedly wearing orange overalls, have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris, causing significant traffic delays.

Authorities advise motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes, such as the R82, to bypass the congestion. The situation is ongoing, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about the latest developments.
