Charity drive to conclude Women’s Month

“I receive a government grant for only six children, so putting ‘Papa’ on the table is always a big challenge. This really means a lot.”

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The Christian Women’s League (CWL) of URCSA Vereeniging, in partnership with Vaal University of Technology’s (VUT) Department of Human Resources and Natural Sciences, Debonairs, and Turn & Tender from Vaal Mall, visited the Mathwala Children’s Home in Vanderbijlpark as part of their Women’s Month closing initiative recently.

Mathwala Children’s Home was founded in 2003 by Elizabeth Twala, who has since become a mother figure to many children. Currently, she cares for 37 children of different ages, including some who arrived at the home as newborns.

“The CWL ministry adopted this home as part of our giving-back-to-the-community programme,” said Mathapelo Moletsane, chairperson of CWL Vereeniging, during her opening remarks. I receive a government grant for only six children, so putting ‘Papa’ on the table is always a big challenge. This really means a lot,” said 73-year-old MaTwala as she expressed gratitude to CWL and its partners.

She further shared that some of the children she raised have since grown up and started independent lives as young men and women. The CWL and its partners contributed meals for the day along with essential household items such as maize meal, washing powder, bath soap, sanitary towels, and cooking oil.

The celebration was filled with prayer, song, and dance. The children enjoyed Debonairs pizza, drinks, party packs, and special gifts for the older ones. The atmosphere was joyful, with smiles all around, marking a memorable day at Mathwala Children’s Home.
