Zakes’ Sports Corner’s Open Letter to ELM

Dear Mr Mayor, Zakes’ Sports Corner challenges you and your team to visit township facilities.

SEDIBENG.- Dear Sir/Madam, this is not a political attack, but a serious concern regarding the challenges the Emfuleni community faces in terms of service delivery, specifically at sports facilities.

This is not the first time Zakes’ Sports Corner has highlighted the issue of sports facilities, but it seems as if the concerns fall on deaf ears, to say the least.

Dear Sir/Madam, Zakes’ Sports Corner wants to bring this to your attention. Recently, Midvaal Local Municipality hosted the SAFA Gauteng Development League Festival at Sicelo Stadium in Meyerton.

These games were expected to take place at George Thabe Stadium since the venue is close to the community. However, Rember Elite Sport Academy (RESA) decided to take these games to the Sicelo community.

Zakes’ Sport Corner was informed that one of the reasons why these games were taken to Midvaal is the lack of maintenance at Emfuleni sports facilities. Zakes’ Sports Corner is unsure how true this is.

However, this can be true considering that the newly promoted ABC Motsepe League Club Young Pirates FC is also going to play their home games in Midvaal.

This can be the reason why Gauteng Development League Festival games are played at Sicelo Stadium. It seems there is no effort to improve George Thabe Stadium.

Dear Sir/Madam, Zakes’ Sports Corner challenges you to visit all your sporting facilities in the community, and you will thank me later. Zakes’ Sport Corner doubts that even the “honourable” Emfuleni Mayor Sipho Radabe is aware of the state of sports facilities in the community.
