Dr Oliphant shares shocking 2010 World Cup secrets on how SA won the bid
This first-of-its-kind educational event drew former football greats from as far as Soweto to discuss important ideas.
SEDIBENG.- Great minds gathered on November 1 at the Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre in Zone 14, Sebokeng, as the South African Masters and Legends Football Association (SAMLFA) Sedibeng, in partnership with the Emfuleni Local Municipality, hosted a landmark Soccer Legends Workshop.

This first-of-its-kind educational event drew former football greats from as far as Soweto to discuss important ideas.
Prominent figures graced the historical gathering, including former SAFA President and SAFA Lifetime President Dr Molefi Oliphant, Emfuleni MMC of Sports and Recreation Lehlohonolo Malindi, and Emfuleni Local Football Association Chairman Mfanafuthi Masondo.

Legendary KC Mabelane, one of the founders of SAMLFA Sedibeng, also contributed significantly to the event’s success.
The primary aim of the workshop was to empower legends and masters to compile and write their own biographies, with Prof Teboho Pitso leading the proceedings. It was a memorable day that included a special moment when Prof Pitso presented Dr Oliphant with a book he wrote about him.
During the event, Dr Oliphant shared why he has repeatedly refused to write a book about himself despite being approached many times. He made a surprising revelation, explaining that any autobiography he wrote would need to mention how South Africa won the bid to host the 2010 World Cup. He chose not to disclose further details, preferring to keep that history private rather than tell only part of the story.

Sedibeng Ster Sport’s attempts to obtain more details about these secrets was unsuccessful.
Looking to the future of local sport, Malindi made a strong commitment to the attendees, announcing that the Bophelong Stadium will be completed in six months. This promise followed a recent site visit to inspect construction progress, undertaken by Malindi and SAMLFA members led by Bricks Mokolo.
