Molakeng shares pieces of herself in her newly launched memoir

SEBOKENG – Councillor and healer Lillian Molakeng, widely known as Gogo Mabalwetsi, has added author to her many titles following the launch of her powerful memoir, titled Rising from the Ashes: My Journey of Spiritual Awakening.

The book, where Molakeng speaks openly about her journey was launched during World Trauma Day at Sebokeng Hospital on October 17. The event was hosted in partnership with Sebokeng Hospital, Gauteng EMS, Sedibeng District Health Services, eNet Health South Africa Official NPC, faith leaders and Traditional Health Practitioners, the event honoured trauma survivors, frontline responders, and families affected by trauma. It championed a more compassionate, integrated approach to emergency and post-trauma care.

Speaking to Ster North, Molakeng cites that the book is an intimate reflection on survival, faith, and the beauty of rediscovering life’s purpose after tragedy.

“The book traces my journey of healing following a life-threatening motor vehicle accident that left me unconscious and fighting for my life.

Molakeng, who was wheel chair bound after her accident, explains that from the wreckage emerged not only physical recovery, but a deep spiritual rebirth that redefined her calling as both a public servant and a traditional healer.

Blending elements spirituality, and personal development, rising from the Ashes explores universal themes of pain, perseverance, and divine guidance. Through the book, Molakeng speaks to the resilience of the human spirit, reminding readers that every fall carries the seed of renewal.

“My story is not just about survival,” says Gogo Mabalwetsi. “It’s about the sacred journey of rising of finding yourself again, guided by God, the ancestors, and the quiet strength within.”

The book is a tribute to her late mother, Alina Molakeng, and all who shaped her path. The the book also celebrates African identity, ancestral wisdom, and the grace that comes from embracing one’s true purpose.
