SEBOKENG.-  The Sebokeng police are pleading with the members of the public to take precautionary safety measures as hijacking are on the rise as the festive season nears.

It is alleged that on November 8, the victim was dropping off his friend at a tavern in Golden Gardens (GG) and as he stopped for his friend to alight, they were approached by five unknown men who pointed them with firearms.

“They further assaulted them with pistol buds on their heads, told them to look on the ground and they complied. The suspects entered the victim’s vehicle and drove off to an unknown location. No shots were fired but the victims sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for medical treatment,” said police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane.

In another case, on November 9, the Sebokeng police were summoned to Zone 12, and upon arrival, they were told that the driver (34) was from a tavern and intended to go home when they had a problem with their vehicle and tried to phone someone to assist.

“That is when an unknown man knocked on the window with a firearm. He instructed the driver  to get out of the vehicle, and she did as instructed. The suspect tried to start the vehicle but failed,” Mokhachane added.

The deceased was further instructed to start her vehicle whilst the suspect was outside and as it started the deceased drove off. Several gunshots were heard and the deceased lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.

“The deceased  had gunshot wounds on her back and was declared dead by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS). She was further taken to Forensic Pathology Services for further investigation.”

The police plead with the public to come forward with any information that may assist with the investigation.
